Our Vision

The Westbrook Legacy Foundation cultivates community resilience, cultural expression, and environmental stewardship through arts, land‑based education, and intergenerational wellness programming. We create accessible spaces where youth, families, elders, and veterans can learn, heal, and build together. Through creative workshops, garden‑based learning, and community events, we expand equitable access to the humanities, deepen connection to place, and strengthen the social ecosystems that allow communities to thrive.

We are ART.

We are CULTURE.

We are SUSTAINABILITY.

We are legacy in motion.

ART

Art is our first language; the way we heal, remember, and imagine what’s possible. Through this pillar, we build accessible pathways for artists of all ages to grow. Our programs offer safe spaces, mentorship, creative incubators, and hands‑on learning that help people develop their craft with confidence, community, and cultural pride.

We host exhibitions, workshops, residencies, and digital labs that honor both emerging and established voices. Whether someone is picking up a camera for the first time, building a portfolio, tending a garden as an art form, or exploring new mediums, we make sure they have the resources, tools, and support to flourish.

Fashion is one of our most powerful tools for connection. We use style as a language of identity, creativity, and cultural storytelling; a way for people to see themselves, feel inspired, and move through the world with intention. Our merchandise extends that mission: every piece carries our values, sparks conversation, and helps offset the cost of the free programs we provide. It’s art you can wear, community you can represent, and sustainability you can feel.

Through this pillar, we create a living ecosystem where creativity is nurtured, culture is celebrated, and access is never a barrier.

CULTURE

Culture is our continuity; the thread that carries our ancestors’ brilliance into our present and our future. Through this pillar, we honor the creative, intellectual, and spiritual lineages that shaped us, especially the Black pioneers whose innovation, resistance, and imagination built the blueprint for so much of modern life.

Our work is rooted in empowerment and cultural stewardship. We create spaces where community members can gather, learn, celebrate, and remember.  Through events, workshops, lectures, and intergenerational gatherings, we protect the culture while pushing it forward.

We offer free resources, mentorship, and community-centered programming that help people explore identity, history, and creative expression with pride.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is our collective ecosystem; the way we engineer care for ourselves, each other, and the land that carries us. This pillar roots WLF in herbology, holistic health, community gardens, and shared resources that strengthen the body, steady the mind, and nourish the spirit. It honors the wisdom our elders protected and the ancestral practices that keep us grounded in a world that moves at high speed.

Our program at Flat Shoals Community Garden is our living, intergenerational ecosystem; an intentional space where creativity, culture, and sustainability meet. Through our Communal Ecosystem Program, we transform our garden plot into a shared learning environment where community members can connect, plant, create, and grow together. This program offers free, accessible garden‑based sessions that nurture the whole person: mind, body, spirit, and creative practice. Participants engage in hands‑on planting, earth‑based education, cultural storytelling, and reflective art‑making designed to strengthen community bonds and deepen personal well‑being.

Registered participants may plant in the communal bed and share in the harvest, reinforcing principles of shared stewardship, food access, and collective care. Periodic special events (such as artist talks, herbal workshops, and cultural gatherings) further enrich the ecosystem.

This program supports intergenerational connection, environmental literacy, creative expression, and community resilience, while modeling a sustainable, community‑rooted approach to arts and culture.

Sankfoa:
Art Incubator Residency

The Communal Ecosystem is a free, weekly gathering space for veterans, families, elders, youth, and neighbors to reconnect with the land (and with each other). Rooted in cultural wisdom and creative expression, our garden becomes a living classroom, a sanctuary, and a community circle all at once.

Through hands‑on gardening, art‑based workshops, and shared storytelling, participants grow food, grow skills, and grow a deeper sense of belonging. Every session nurtures wellness, creativity, and connection in a space designed for all ages and abilities.

What we offer:

  • Free gardening sessions that teach sustainable practices and food‑growing skills

  • Creative arts + cultural workshops inspired by ancestral traditions

  • Veteran‑centered healing spaces that honor service, resilience, and community care

  • Family‑friendly, intergenerational activities that strengthen bonds across ages

  • A welcoming outdoor hub for rest, reflection, and collective growth

This is more than a community garden offering. It’s a living ecosystem of healing, built by the community, for the community.

The Sankofa Art Incubator Residency is a global hybrid art residency designed for artists and veterans who feel called to create from a deeper place. Over six weeks, participants enter a quiet, transformative rhythm (five weeks of virtual immersion where creative practice, cultural memory, and personal mythology begin to surface, followed by a final in‑person gathering). Each cohort becomes its own creative constellation, producing a body of work that is curated into a private WLF exhibition inside our Virtual 3D Gallery in the metaverse. Here, the residency becomes more than a program; it becomes an archive, a portal, and a living exhibition that preserves each artist’s evolution. This is a space for those who sense that their art is shifting, that something is returning, and that they are ready to step into a global community shaped by intention, mystery, and creative rebirth.

Virtual Gallery

The WLF Virtual 3D Gallery is our global exhibition platform (an immersive, metaverse‑based gallery where artists from around the world gather to share work, exchange stories, and be seen). Each year, we host a series of international virtual exhibitions that spotlight emerging voices, veteran artists, cultural storytellers, and creators whose work deserves a borderless stage. The gallery functions as a living archive and a digital sanctuary, offering artists a space where their work can be experienced from anywhere in the world. Exhibitions unfold inside a beautifully curated 3D environment, allowing viewers to move through rooms, encounter artwork intimately, and witness the creative evolution of each cohort. This program transforms digital space into a global meeting ground; where art, culture, and community converge.
